Colour Throwdown Challenge Stampin’ Up’s Bloomin’ Love Valentine’s Card

Happy Valentine’s Day!! I couldn’t not share a Valentine’s Card on Valentine’s Day! I don’t feel like I have made that many this year, compared to last year. You know those memories that you get notified of on Facebook, well I have had one every day this week and they have all been cards that were published on my blog last year, I was obviously feeling the love!!

For today’s card I have tried a bit of a different challenge. I have noticed a few people taking part in this challenge on Instagram and I am always looking for ways to step out of my comfort zone when it comes to colour combinations so I thought I would give it a whirl…..

This weeks Colour Throwdown #379

swatch379

So I chose Blushing Bride A4 Cardstock for my base, cut at 4 1/8 inch and scored at 5 7/8inches. I then cut a mat from Rich Razzleberry A4 Cardstock measuring 3 7/8 x 5 5/8 inches which I adhered a mat of Gold Fancy Foil Designer Vellum over measuring 3 6/8 x 5 4/8 inches.

20160213_215807_marked

Using the Bloomin’ Heart Thinlits Die and my BigShot I die cut the heart from Gold Foil Sheets. The matching Bloomin’ Love Stamp Set and Die set are available as a Bundle saving 15% and it is gorgeous, I will not be parting ways with mine for a long time to come!

20160213_215949 - Copy_marked

I stamped the accent flowers in Rich Razzleberry Classic Ink on to some more Blushing Bride cardstock and die cut them and adhered them on to my gold heart. I then adhered some gold sequins from the Metallics Sequin Assortment. I popped my heart up on some Stampin Dimensionals and popped my card front up on to my card base.

20160213_220105_001_01_marked

Finally breaking out the stamps in the Bloomin’ Love Stamp Set I stamped the Banner stamp and my sentiment inside my banner in Melon Mambo Classic Ink on some more Blushing Bride cardstock. I also stamped three hearts and fussy cut these out with my Paper Snips. I popped my banner and hearts up on dimensionals and covered my hearts in Dazzling Details and my flowers on my heart in Wink of Stella Glitter Brush Pen for that extra bit of glitter!

I hope you have a lovely Valentine’s weekend whatever you are up to and don’t forget to go and grab those Sale-a-Bration items that retire for good on Monday 15th February!

So for today’s sketch….

12654412_10153834145674463_9172960389834255300_n

Today’s post is a huge mash up of points to get across, so we have our sketch and as I mentioned above we have Sam’s birthday, then there is Valentine’s day tomorrow but also we have a few items from the Sale-a-Bration catalogue that are only available until 15th February, yep two more days to grab these amazing products! I have gone in to more detail about the Sale-a-Bration promotion at the end of this post if you need to know more about how to bag these bargains.

P1010826_marked

For my card bases I used Crumb Cake A4 Cardstock cut at 4 1/8 inches and scored at 5 7/8 inches.

Then taking the gorgeous Perfectly Artistic Designer Series Paper, and you don’t realise how gorgeous this paper is until you open it! I cut four strips, two from the Melon Mambo/Blushing Bride colour, and one of each of the Crushed Curry/Daffodil Delight, Soft/Tempting Turquoise, measuring 3 x 5 5/8 inches.

I adhered these to my card fronts and then with some more Crumb Cake cardstock I stamped my sentiment from the Sky is the Limit stamp set, and like the DSP this is only available for two more days and would be perfect for Father’s Day cards!!, in Versamark Ink and heat embossed it with White Stampin’ Emboss Powder and my heat tool.

As I can’t resist using my Prismacolour pencils on Crumb Cake Cardstock I coloured in the trailing smoky heart image that I lined up under my sentiment using my Stamp-a-mi-jig in matching colours. I then punched these out with the 2″ inch Circle Punch.

I did add in a Happy Birthday sentiment for our Birthday girl! To finish my cards off I adhered my sentiment pieces on to some 2 3/8″ Scalloped Circle punch outs from the Perfectly Artistic DSP.

To add a bit of interest behind my sentiment pieces I made some “Pootle Loops” with some of the White 1 1/4 Jute Ribbon and popped my sentiments up on Stampin’ Dimensionals. To round the cards off I punched out three hearts, it is Valentine’s weekend, with my heart punch from the Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack and popped these up and added some Basic Pearl Jewels.

Stampin’ Up’s Bloomin’ Love Valentines Card

So I am staying with the Valentine’s theme for today’s card. Recently one of the lovely ladies in our team came up with the idea of a card swap amongst ourselves, so we each had someone to send a card to. What a great idea!! It gives us such an inspiration boost and plus as the theme for this months swap was Valentines my husbands face was a picture when I opened up a Valentines card!!

So on with the card. I wanted to do something a little different so I got my card swatches and chose two very different colours that I normally would not go for or put together. I used Blackberry Bliss A4 Cardstock for my base cut at 4 1/8 inches and scored at 5 7/8 inches. I then added a mat of Pink Pirouette A4 Cardstock measuring 3 7/8 inches x 5 5/8 inches and adhered this to my card base using Fast Fuse Adhesive, which has fast become my go to adhesive!

For my card front I took some more Pink Pirouette cardstock and the absolutely gorgeous Bloomin’ Hearts Thinlits Die and die cut my focal piece using my Bigshot. This die is so pretty, you don’t appreciate how pretty until you see it yourself. I adhered this to another piece of Blackberry Bliss cardstock measuring 3 5/8 inches x 5 3/8inches using Multi Purpose Liquid Glue.  Taking some scrap Blackberry Bliss card stock I die cut some of the matching flower pieces. I covered these in some of the Wink of Stella Glitter brush pen and popped these up on some Stampin Dimensionals on to my die cut heart.

20160119_145408_marked

For my sentiment I used the Bloomin’ Love Stamp Set which with the thinlits comes in a Bundle saving you 15%. I stamped my sentiment in Blackberry Bliss Classic Ink onto some Pink Pirouette cardstock and very quickly heat embossed this with my heat tool and some Clear Stampin’ Embossing Powder. Once this was melted I quickly again sprinkled on some embossing powder and heated it again giving a more raised effect. I then covered the heart on my sentiment in Wink of Stella Glitter brush pen.

To finish off I wrapped some Pink Pirouette 1/2 inch Seam Binding Ribbon around my card front. Taking my sentiment piece I tied some of the 1/4 inch Cotton Ribbon, in Rich Razzleberry, in to a knot. I popped my sentiment piece up on dimensionals to my card front and adhered this with dimensionals to my card base. Taking some Crystal Effects I covered my flowers and the heart on my sentiment piece to give some more dimension to them.

So that was my swap for this month, and I am looking forward to next months challenge and I hope you will join me by subscribing to my blog. I will too be posting how I made my cardstock swatches that helped me come up with my colour scheme for this card.

So thanks for dropping by, Louise xx

Pootlers Spring and Summer Blog Hop

bog hop-001

Welcome to another Pootler’s Blog Hop! Today’s blog hop is all about Spring & Summer, Yay!!! I am so over Winter, I hate the dark nights. So to cheer us up we have a brand new Spring & Summer Catalogue which of course coincides with Sale-a-Bration (for more details scroll to the bottom of the page), so there really is no better time to spend your money! So you may have joined me from our lovely Hannah who is the lovely lady that organises the hops (much love to her!) or you may be working your way backwards and arrived from the lovely Karen’s blog. Either way we will be showcasing some of the gorgeous new products from the new catalogue.

P1010809_marked

For today’s card I used the gorgeous Balloon Celebration Stamp Set which is available in a bundle, saving 15%, with the Balloon Bouquet Punch. This is such a pretty and delicate stamp set I knew I wanted to keep with more of a subtle colour scheme so I went with Mint Macaron A4 Cardstock for my card base cut at 4 1/8 inches and scored at 5 7/8 inches.

P1010810_marked

I added a piece of the Love Blossoms Designer Series Paper Stack measuring 3 7/8 inches x 5 5/8 inches. To make my background for my cute balloons, I made a mask from some post it notes by stamping the cloud shapes on to them and cutting them out and using the tiniest bit of Snail Adhesive to stick them down temporarily on to a piece of Whisper White A4 Cardstock measuring 3 5/8 inches x 5 3/8 inches. Then taking some Soft Sky Classic Ink (appropriately named for this project) I sponged on some colour over my masks. Then peeling them away leaving some whiter clouds. To add a bit of depth to my clouds, using the cloud images I stamped over my white areas with some Smoky Slate Classic Ink, using the stamping off or second generation stamping technique so the colour was a little more muted.

P1010811_marked

Now for my favourite bit!! Taking the two solid balloon images I stamped some in Blushing Bride Classic Ink and Mint Macaron Classic Ink on to some Whisper White cardstock. Then taking the shading images for the balloons, I stamped this on to them with some Smoky Slate Ink. I them punched them out using the Balloon Bouquet punch. I stamped the balloon strings on to my background again with some Smoky Slate Ink and popped this up on my card front using some Stampin Dimensionals. I then arranged my balloons, some I stuck down with Tonbow Mono Multi Glue and others I popped up using dimensionals.

P1010812_marked

For my sentiment, as I wanted this to be a Valentine’s card, I used the Bloomin’ Love Stamp Set. I stamped my sentiment again in Smoky Slate Ink on to some Blushing Bride A4 Cardstock and popped this up on my card front. Using a spare heart that I had embossed many moons ago (I tend to do a few at a time if I am doing one and keep them for a rainy day) I popped this up on to my sentiment.

P1010813_marked

For the inside of my card I used another sentiment and small heart stamp from the Bloomin’ Love Stamp Set. Well that’s my card for today.

I really enjoyed making this card and I was pleased with how it turned out, I might try and step out of my comfort zone though and try a different colour palette! Don’t forget to hop on to my fellow Pootler’s for more inspiration!

Thanks for hopping by today, Louise xx

Stampin’ Up Sale-a-Bration Best Year Ever and You Plus Me Valentines Card

Well if you have not realised it is Valentine’s Day in four days!! You can not get away from it in the shops, although there is a lot more around now than there used to be.  It is becoming more and more popular here in the UK although I am not too sure about the rest of Europe but I know our friends in the states celebrate it with a lot more enthusiasm than we do although why not!? It is a day where we get to tell those we love and care about how much we love and appreciate them, so come on jump on board the love train (too cheesy??…….sorry!) and get everyone involved and have a bit of fun!  I will be posting some Valentine projects this week that will hopefully inspire you to get involved.

So to start off I thought may be you are not into the lovey dovey stuff and did not want to send a all singing dancing fluff and sequins card, or you have teenage children that you want to give a card to but they are way to cool to care! So I thought a simple card with slightly more discreet colours would work.  So I chose a piece of White Naturals A4 Cardstock for my card base cut at 5 7/8 inches (14.8cm) scored at 4 1/8 inches (10.5 cm) and some of the gorgeous Best Year Ever Designer Series Paper this paper is available as part of the SAB promotion where you can choose a “Free” product from the SAB catalogue for every £45 you spend on Stampin’ Up products, Bargain!!

I took a piece of the Naturals White cardstock  to make a front panel for my card cut a 1/4 inch smaller on the length and width of my card base.  I then used the heart die from the ever so versatile Mini Treat Bag Thinlits Die set , from the Spring and Summer Catalogue to cut out two hearts from my panel.  This die set can be used in many different projects not just to make the treat bags, these sets are such good value for money as they come with word dies, banner dies and embellishment dies which can be used on so many different things and are great when like me you are building up your supplies and do not have many dies.

You Plus Me Valentines Card

You Plus Me Valentines Card

I took some of the Best Year Ever DSP to pop behind the windows created by the heart die, I used some of the paler more traditional type paper with what look like lots of kisses for my first card and teamed this with a strip of Pink Pirouette Cardstock 2 3/4 inches (7cm x 2cm) on to which I stamped a sentiment out of the You Plus Me stamp set with Versamark Ink and heat embossed it using my heat tool and Stampin’ Up White Embossing Powder.  I then cut this into a banner shape and popped it in between my two heart shapes.

You Plus Me Valentines Card

You Plus Me Valentines Card

For my second card I used a more non-traditional paper and some Bermuda Bay Cardstock for my sentiment.  You could perhaps use this for way cooler teenager boys or those tom-boy daughters who despise everything pink, like me when I was a bit or a lot younger, not like my daughter who is definitely a girly girl!!  I added three hearts punched from matching cardstock and DSP with the heart punch from the Itty Bitty Accent Punch Pack.

I kept the inside very simple to match the front of this card.  I just used a strip of DSP, matching cardstock and two hearts with the Heart punch from the Itty Bitty Accent Punch pack.

Stampin’ Up Sale-a-Bration Irresistibly Yours Valentines Card

So who is your Valentine?? Mine apparently is the Stampin’ Up Irresistibly Yours Speciality Designer Series paper.  This paper is available through the Sale-a-Bration promotion and when choosing my free products with my most recent order, yes I said FREE (details on how you can get your hands on FREE goodies below), I was not sure whether to pick this pack of paper.  It doesn’t look much in the SAB catalogue and I could not see how I was going to use it.

Well it arrived and it is gorgeous!!! I am in love with it, it is a white paper with white embossed patterns on it and well it comes alive when you apply ink and it is divine!

I decided to use it in my latest project as it is the “Sale-a-Bration product of the week” but now I have started using it and getting all inky I can’t stop as you will see in my up coming projects.

So here is my Valentine’s card, I have used the You Plus Me stamp set and used the lovely colour combo of Smoky Slate and Pink Pirouette.  The You Plus Me stamp set, the Happy Heart Textured Impressions Embossing folder and Itty Bitty Accents Epoxy stickers are just some of the beautiful items available in our Spring and Summer Catalogue.

Irresistibly Yours Valentine

Irresistibly Yours Valentine

I used a piece of Smoky Slate cardstock for my card base 5 6/8 x 8 2/8 inches (14.6 x 21 cm) scored at 4 1/8 inches (10.5 cm) and a piece of Whisper White cardstock 5.5 x 3 7/8 inches (14 x 10cm) which I embossed with the Happy Heart Embossing folder, I then got to the exciting bit lol, I took a piece of the polka dot Irresistibly Yours Speciality Designer Series paper, you get 6 designs in a pack and 2 sheets of each design, and sponged on some Pink Pirouette Classic ink, starting in the middle of my piece and working my way out to the edges to keep them lighter in colour giving a gradient effect……love it!!

Irresistibly Yours Valentine

Irresistibly Yours Valentine

I then used some Pink Pirouette cardstock which I stamped my sentiment on and some of the heart images from the You Plus Me stamp set and heat embossed these with some Stampin’ white embossing powder.  I punched the one heart out with the heart punch from the Itty Bitty Accents Punch pack and added an Itty Bitty Accents Epoxy sticker to it, which I also love, they are so pretty! I popped it all together with the addition of some Pearl Basic Jewels and a strip of Dazzling Diamonds glimmer paper.  I kept the inside simple with some simple heart stamping on some Whisper White cardstock with some sponging around the edges and “voila” my Valentine’s card, which my husband thought I had made for him, no such luck this one is for me 😉
